Coconut Oil For Body & Home

Coconut Oil for Body & Home

I think by now most people (especially those of us interested in healthy living) have heard about the many uses of coconut oil. I love any product that can multitask, because I find buying a lot of specialized products just means more clutter in my home and ends up costing extra money.

My favorite use for coconut oil is as a moisturizer! I rub it on my elbows and knees before bed to keep rough spots smooth, or mix a little into my lotion when it needs a little oomph. It’s also great to rub on the ends of your hair – but use sparingly (or when you plan on having a bun day!).

Because it’s naturally free of toxins, I like to use it on my baby and in cooking as well. I use 1 part coconut oil to 2 parts lotion on the baby after a bath. If you’re little one is a mover, hit those knees with some extra!

Safe Personal Care Products – Baby2Body

Safe Personal Care Products, Baby2Body

My cousin and I are always on the hunt for the best natural, safe personal care products. This summer, she purchased the EWG Sunscreen Sampler after trying a few brands she wasn’t crazy about last summer. (It’s so hard to find a healthy, affordable sunscreen that spreads evenly and doesn’t leave behind a chalky paste!) Sometimes you just want try a little bit before committing to the 1,000oz warehouse club sale. Parents should be aware of what is absorbed into their children (and their own!) skin.

Condition Your Hair While You Workout

Deep Condition Your Hair During Workouts

I’ll admit. I’m a little vain. I like wearing new clothes, cream blush and I love trying out new beauty and personal care products. (Just because I like to stay away from scary toxins, doesn’t mean I don’t use a curling iron!) I’m also a busy working-mom who (occasionally) likes to sleep and relax with friends on the deck during the summer. In fact, I try to do as much as a I can in the early morning hours during the week, so I can enjoy some downtown and perhaps even a cocktail on the weekends :)

For me, products that multitask are essential. My organic CC cream and coconut oil are two necessities that I can’t image doing without. Most recently, I tried out Hair Warrior. Hair Warrior works with your own body heat to protect and condition your hair while you work out. Yes, you read that correctly: You deep-condition your hair as you burn calories.

Keep reading for a coupon to try your very own bottle of Hair Warrior, and see my before and after photos!

Spring Must-Have: Stylish Nursing Tunic

Alison Britt Nursing Tunic on

I’m constantly getting good-naturedly teased that I’ll be nursing my son when he’s heading off to high school. (He’s 7 months old.) My goal is to get make it through the first year, and perhaps a bedtime session as long as we’re both comfortable. At this point, I’m just trying to make it through each day. Most days we experience no issues, but we’ve recently introduced solids, and my little buddy has 5 teeth – which scare the bejeezus out of me. He’s also more interested in looking at the ceiling fan, a ray of sunshine or his dad, than focusing on the task at hand.

I’m not typically known for my modesty indoors. Most of the time it’s easier for me to just whip out the girls and nurse, than struggle with a cover. My husband and our immediate family members are usually the only other people around, so I haven’t felt at all uncomfortable. Additionally, it’s been such a brutal winter that our jaunts outdoors have been relatively quick so I’ve always been back inside (or in our car) for most feeding sessions.

I’ve used the cover a few times while in a restaurant, but I’m excited to have recently discovered the world of designer breastfeeding apparel! There’s so much more than the scruffy-looking maternity nursing tank top I’ve been living in. Now a days, breastfeeding mothers can find tops that allow them to feed their baby without showing the goods off to the world… and still look fashionable. I don’t think mamas of older generations had nearly as many options as we do.

Ladies, it’s a miracle. [Read more…]

Laundry List: How to Keep Your Whites White Without Chemicals

Laundry List: How to Keep Your Whites White Without Chemicals

The minute spring and summer hit, the whites in my closet are put on heavy rotation. White jeans, white T-shirts, and crisp, white button-downs are all major staples in my wardrobe this time of year. So the challenge has been keeping my whites looking as fresh as when I first bought them. When you’re wearing whites a lot, you don’t want them to fade or yellow over time. But I also prefer the eco-friendly solution over harsh chemicals, and try not to keep bleach under my sink (especially with the pups in the house). So, I did a little research, and I was pleased to discover that there are several safe and natural alternatives to bleach. Check them out below…
